Daily Life !

Everyday life in the middle ages was controlled by wealth, power, and status in the society. Half of the day people spent working on land, and trying to grow enough food to survive another year. Medieval villages usually consisted of mostly farmers. They traded a lot of goods, the most successful good that was traded was salt.
Most people say that in the middle ages people dressed a little weird. Most of the modern clothing was rags, rags was the most popular thing to have on in the middle ages. Clothes back in those days were made out of cheap clothing but were still good clothes. The wealthy people made their clothes out of fine silk, sturdy, woolen fabrics. The more commonly wore softer silk and linen. They usually made clothes so they wouldn't fall apart or rip. Clothes were made to be worn, and worn until the clothing was no longer able to be worn. Like if the shirt or pants ripped or fell apart that's when they would wear that peice of clothing anymore. Sometimes clothes come back in style over time. Clothing from the middle ages not to many of those came back in style!

What Kind of Living Did Medieval Family Have ?

Most people in medieval times lived in small cramped houses. Often with the rich families they lived in huge houses with marble floors and a fountain in the front of the house. While you could probably guess that poor people lived totally different. Most poor people lived in tall cramped apartment buildings. They always had to worry about rats and fires. They worried about rats and fires because of the environment they lived in. The living in medieval times for poor people and rich was frightening, scary, evil, bad no fun for us. A murderer or any kind of bad guy could knock on your door at anytime, you just never knew who it was unless you actually knew the person. If you a bad person or did something bad you would be punished that's why you always had to be on your best behavior. You always had to work hard on anything you did, like if you farmed you had to put in a lot of work. But you had to be careful, sometimes people would burn up farms. It actually was a better life inside than outside as you can guess.

What Was a Child's Life Like ?

Very young children spent most of their days playing with toys or making up games. The toys children had and the games they made up or played depended on where their parents were placed in society. By the age of 12 and 14 the kids were considered young adults that meant they had to do work.  The daugher's usually learned how to make clothes from their mother. While the son usually learned how to fight, not form his father though because his father wasn't around. During the birth of a child, yes it was a good thing but it was a danger for the mother because back in the medieval times there wasn't medicine and shots to take so the mother would be in great PAIN! I saw that one women said that for all the pain she went through tho have the baby, she was going to put the baby through pain also. Kids were mistreated, sometimes were accused of being witches with no evidence. In medieval times children were abused, sold, left at doorsteps of churches, and were considered grown by 7-8 years old. Rich girls had to be on a marriage contract made by the family of an older man by the age of 3-4. They were married by the age of 12 or 13, and dead by the age of 15 because of childbirth.

How Was a Family Raised in Medieval Times

If a women had more money than a women with less money, then the women with more money had more kids. She had more kids because she had moeny to provide for the kid(s). Women usually had their children in their home with their female friend and female family. The father of the kid wasnt there during the birth, and he wasnt there during the child's life either. So the mother's had no help from the father. The father's of kids basically acted like they didnt even have a kid, they just kept living their life like they were before they had a child. The rich mother's were able to hire a nurse to help feed the baby and take care of it. On the other hand, the poor mother's they had to do it all alone. They breastfed the baby and sometimes the baby didnt evn have clothes because the mother wasn't able to supply it for the child. Sometimes children were raised in two different ways. The first way was that children were counted for little or nothing, and the other was that they should have been cared for and feel loved! How we treat children today is WAAAAYYYY different than in medieval times. Like today there is a law saying something like children shouldn't be beat to death. In medieval times it wasnt't wrong. The children who suffered the most were the poor children that lived with a poor family, they weren't so much beat but the poor families they usually sold their child to get money since they were unfortunate. The wealthy people they just sent their children away to be brought up by a different family. They usually did this around the age of seven.
